Someone may be disappointed if you don't do as you're told. Oh well, they'll survive. If belonging to a group requires abandoning something genuinely important to you, then walk away proudly. Don't try to keep everybody happy. You are responsible for your choices; others are responsible for theirs. Guilt trips don't become valid just because somebody creates them convincingly.
